From Ants to Elephants

My first weekend here me and the roommies decided to go on a camping adventure, despite the fact that Brooke was really sick and should have been in bed. We went to a place in the mountains about three hours from home. The drive was amazing and beautiful. I saw everything from wild elephants to truck bumpers made out of trees.

About half way to our destination all the water I had been drinking finally got to me. My options were to go on the side of the road or stop at a little shack/house, yeah not really sure what it was. Well not being too skilled at going in the wild I opted to stop at the house. Thankfully my roommate could speak the language and asked if we could use the bathroom. Through the back of the house and damp kitchen floors was a little wooden door...when Brooke opened the door all that went through my head was the psycho theme song...it was a squatty potty. I should have chosen to go in the woods!!! Instantly I had stage fright and after along time of hovering over the hole in the ground I asked Brooke if she could turn some water on somewhere. She turned on the the sink of the ladies kitchen and finally I was able to go. The next challenge was trying not go let it get all over my pants. I was mostly successful.

The squatty potty: place your feet on the wings of the porcelain (if your lucky) oval, squat down and do your business. Then flush with a cup full of water. Mastered by Kelly on July 20, 2007. Thankfully I just had to go number one!

This picture really says it all...Brooke; the always singing, always smiling one. Staci; more mysterious, a little mischievous. And you know me...

So one pit stop down and still 2 hours to go. As we climbed the mountain the temperature got colder and the fog got thicker. It was a narrow and steep road, with at least a dozen intense switch backs. Finally to the top, it was cool and misty, we arrived at our destination, and it was evident by the surroundings we were not going to be ruffing it. The setting was in a little valley surrounded by mountain peaks, flower, bamboo and banzai gardens. We got the keys to our little cabin, six beds a bathroom and a tv.

It was rainy out, but I was antsy and anxious to explore the new place. So I drug my two roommates one of which was still very sick, out in the rain to the flower garden. Then the drizzle turned into a down pour and we were stuck under a beer umbrella until it let up.
